Through His Heart by Deborah Camp ♥ Book Tour & GIVEAWAY ♥ (Paranormal Romantic Suspense)

“Sending you an SOS.”

When psychic Trudy Tucker hears this plaintive cry in her mind and then connects psychically with a little girl’s kidnapper, she is drawn to a small town in Missouri where everyone is suspect – including herself and her lover, celebrated psychic detective Levi Wolfe. As she and Levi work together to sort through whom and what to trust, an innocent life hangs in the balance.

5 Facts Behind the Story I’ve Told
Sometimes it’s fun to “look behind the scenes,” right? So, let’s move aside the curtain and I’ll let you in on some stories behind what I’ve put on paper in “Though His Heart.”
1. Cotton, Missouri. This is a fictional town, but I was born in southeast Missouri in a small town in the bootheel called Hayti. I’ve been to Reelfoot Lake often, along with Cape Giradeau (I have a cousin who lives there), Kennett (my uncle and aunt and cousins live there), and Memphis and Dyersburg, TN. There are many small towns in that area and cotton is still king there. My family moved away from the area when I was two, but we went back a couple of times a year to visit relatives.
2. Robby the Psychic. My interest in psychics began when I met a boy named Robby in the ninth grade. He was (and is) remarkable. Not only does he possess ESP, he has a photographic memory and he speed-reads. He could take home a huge textbook, read it that night, and then never look at it again. He aced every test. He could also tell what I was thinking most of the time – which is why I never played cards with him. To this day, I can concentrate hard on him and he will phone me. One time I dreamed of him and he called me from Russia in the middle of the night!
3. The Roundtable. The Psychic Roundtable headed by Quintara where Levi met Trudy is inspired by a Writers Roundtable I attended for 10 or 15 years in Tulsa. Aspiring authors met weekly, had their work read aloud and critiqued by the other writers there. It was wonderful being with kindred spirits who wanted me to be the best writer I could be. The character of Quintara is based on the woman who headed that roundtable – Peggy Fielding.
4. Chihuahuas. I love them and have owned one or more of them since I was a kid. My current crop consists of Mister Darcy, Inky Dinky Doo Dawg, Dexter, Slim, and Gypsy. I did have a gray Chihuahua named Mouse. She was my travel buddy and went everywhere with me when I roamed the country in my RV. I never had an RV that I dubbed “Gypsy Spirit,” but I did have one I called “The Blue Goose” and another one I named “The Rambler.”
5. Fifty Shades. I owe a debt of gratitude to “Fifty Shades of Grey” and its sequels for inspiring me to write my Mind’s Eye series. Although I’ve kicked around this story for a decade, I never had the courage to go ahead and write it. Then I read “Fifty” and my love for the misunderstood and deeply flawed hero bloomed anew. I wrote the first draft of “Through His Eyes” in a fever, fueled by “Fifty Shades of Grey.”

Levi shifted his shoulders as if a weight had settled on them and his black brows knitted. His thick, sooty lashes tapped his cheeks as he squirmed a little. After taking a lung-filling breath, he let it escape in a long hiss. Trudy wondered what he was experiencing, what was going on in that brilliant mind of his. What did he see? Shadows moving in the distance? Souls stepping forward? A young girl emerging and answering his call? From the movement of his eyes behind his closed lids, she knew he was there . . . there among the spirits.

“Gregory,” he whispered.

His spirit guide! She sat forward, watching, waiting. He hadn’t connected with Gregory very much during the past few months. He’d told her that it bothered him, but that Gregory had reminded him that he only appeared when Levi needed guidance or centering. So, why had he appeared now? Was Levi having trouble? Had she been wrong to prod him into looking for Rachel over there?

“What’s going on?” Levi asked, his raspy voice carrying a sliver of doubt. “Who’s that? Is it . . . that’s not . . . no. No!” His eyes opened, wide and wild. He gasped for breath and emitted little grunts of panic with each exhale.

Trudy’s heart and spirits plummeted. “You saw her there? Rachel’s there?” A sob tore at her throat. How could she tell AmyLynn? Did the FBI know already?

“No . . . I . . .” Levi shot to his feet and scrubbed his face with his hands. “Fuck, fuck, fuck!”

“She’s there? Oh, my God, she’s dead. He killed her.” Trudy wrapped her arms around herself as she began to shake with the horrible knowledge. She’d failed. She’d been useless. Ineffective. A bad joke. The little girl . . . gone. Gone!

“I didn’t see Rachel.”

    1. Why, thank you, Pernella! Yes, I'm writing a romance set in Texas a couple of years after the Civil War. It deals with how people handle great loss and make their way to new lives and loves. And then I'll probably write #4 in the Mind's Eye series because I've just scratched the surface with Levi and Trudy!
