Better Together by Crista McHugh 💕 Book Blitz & Kindle Fire and Gift Card Giveaway 💕 (Contemporary Romance)

Hawaiian rancher Alex Kahale needs a temporary wife to close a deal that’s vital to the welfare of his herd. Thankfully, he’s already married to a woman stole his heart in less than a week, even if that same wife filed for divorce a few days after they said their “I dos”.

Rising country music star Britney Moore had a wild fling with a cowboy in Las Vegas a year ago which ended in a drunken drive-through marriage. Once she returned to Nashville, she filed for divorce to save her squeaky clean image. Besides, spontaneous marriages never last, and she knows better than to risk her heart on Alex. But no matter how many requests she sends him, he refuses to sign the papers. Then he sends her an intriguing offer. Come to his ranch on Kauai and pretend to be his wife for two weeks for business purposes, and he’ll sign the papers.

As much as Britney tries to resist his charm, Alex manages to tear down her defenses one by one until she falls for him all over again. But when the press finds out about her secret husband, will their revived romance be killed by the tabloids?

Alex paused to gauge her reaction. He’d just thrown her a curveball, and he was anxious to see how she’d respond to it. He already knew exactly how he felt about the situation, even though he was doing his best to act like it was nothing. He’d been fighting his desire ever since he’d spotted her at the airport this evening. Her hair was a little bit different from before, with warm golden streaks the color of honey spiking through the rich auburn. But her eyes were still the same—a mixture of blue and green and gold that he couldn’t define as anything other than hazel.
And right now, they were focused completely on him.
Her pupils grew large, stretching those multicolored irises into a thin rim of mossy green. Her chest rose and fell as though she were trying to catch her breath. Those pouty pink lips he couldn’t get enough of shimmered from whatever lip gloss she’d been using, making them look even more tempting than before.
The silence stretched between them for what felt like an eternity. The longer he watched, the warmer the room became. She never took her eyes off him. The flush that rose into her cheeks told him there was a good chance she might still want him.
And God knew how much he wanted her. Neither time nor experience could cool those heated memories. It was pure torture standing across the room from her, half undressed. A year ago, he would’ve been cupping that sweet little ass in his hands. And he wouldn’t have stopped there. He would’ve stripped off her clothing, layer by layer, and then tasted every inch of her skin, teasing her, hearing her moan with pleasure from every flick of his tongue and every touch of his lips. And when neither one of them could take it anymore, he would’ve buried himself deep inside her until they both screamed with pleasure.
But as detailed as his fantasies were, he still kept his guard up. He couldn’t forget what had happened the last time they’d been together. After all, she was the one who’d run away in the middle of the night and had left him mere hours after they’d been married. She was the one who’d then served him with divorce papers less than a month later. And she was the one who’d refused any further contact from him until he promised to sign those papers. As far as he knew, she wanted nothing more to do with their marriage.
Of course, based on the way she was looking at him right now, that didn’t necessarily apply to him. She may not want to be his wife, but she obviously still wanted him.
And he wasn’t entirely sure what to think about that. On one hand, her lust might’ve worked to his advantage. On the other hand, it could end up burning him even worse than before. But seeing her like this, in his bedroom, filled him with the same contrast of emotions that had plagued him ever since she’d walked out on him—longing tempered by anger, desire cooled by pride. He was a man who never committed to anything without devoting every ounce of his being to it, and the night that he’d promised to love and cherish her still burned in his memory. She may have taken her vows lightly, but he remained determined to find out why she’d given up on them so quickly.

Crista McHugh is a NEW YORK TIMES and USA TODAY BESTSELLING author of fantasy and romance with heroines who are smart, sexy, and anything but ordinary. She also writes fantasy with a little less kissing and bit more action (outside the bedroom) as C. A. McHugh.

Growing up in small town Alabama, Crista relied on story-telling as a natural way for her to pass the time and keep her two younger sisters entertained.

She currently lives in the Audi-filled suburbs of Seattle with her husband and two children, maintaining her alter ego of mild-mannered physician by day while she continues to pursue writing on nights and weekends.

Just for laughs, here are some of the jobs she's had in the past to pay the bills: barista, bartender, sommelier, stagehand, actress, morgue attendant, and autopsy assistant.

And she's also a recovering LARPer. (She blames it on her crazy college days)
